Walk No 60 Glas Maol

Britta
On the day it was decided to reverse the the route of the planned walk and an international brigade - three Scots, two French, one English and one German + two dogs set off from the Glenshee ski centre car park towards Glas Maol - having left a car at the Sean Spittal park on the way up to avoid a final road ascent.
Despite rain clouds all around us we made the top of Glas Maol without getting wet and then set off for Cairn of Claise where we found a sheltered spot for lunch. On the way up towards Carn an Tuirc we realise that we were an elderly dog short and had to retrace our steps until we saw him in the distance below us. Peter and Margaret told the rest of the party to continue onwards while they descended further to pick up their dog and make their own way back. The main group then carried on to the top where we found the boulder field around the summit very slow and difficult to negotiate on the way down - but thereafter a very pleasant route took us past ruined sheilings and spectacular waterfalls back to Sean Spittal where we were able to make mobile phone contact with Peter & Margaret to ensure that they had got off the hill safely.

An ice cream at David Geddes's new shop in the village made a fine end to a very enjoyable walk.
